Couture & Alteration FAQ's

At Amanda Garrett Official, Couture Pieces & Alterations are more than tailoring, they are an art form. With unparalleled skill, personalized care, and devotion to detail, we ensure not only the bride but the entire wedding party is impeccably dressed and exquisitely fitted.

For gowns with intricate embellishments, couture fabrics, or significant modifications, we recommend beginning 6–24 months before your wedding to ensure every element is executed with precision.

For simpler gowns, a timeline of 2–4 months prior to your wedding is generally sufficient.

Every gown — and every bride — is unique. On average, brides can expect:

  • 2–3 fittings for most gowns
  • Up to 6 fittings for gowns with extensive detailing or customizations

Each appointment is designed to refine, sculpt, and perfect your fit.

While every gown/suit requires different attention, the most frequent requests include:

  • Hemming to achieve the perfect length
  • Taking in or letting out the gown for a flawless fit
  • Adjusting or refining straps & sleeves
  • Bustling the train (with video instructions provided for your wedding-day team)

For suits and wedding party attire:
  • Jacket sleeve adjustments
  • Trouser hemming and tapering
  • Waist and shoulder refinements
  • Dress alterations for bridesmaids, mothers, and other attendants

Our process is both thorough and personalized:

  • Alterations Initial connection - Share your gown details and photos with us.
  • Couture Initial connection - Share your gown details and photos with us. Schedule a Zoom or Phone Call, rough quote provided, contract signed, 50% payment made.
  • Booking your appointment - Secure your consultation or initial fitting date.
  • Couture Consultation - Measurements, Samples, Designs approved
  • Initial fitting Alterations - A comprehensive review of your gown and desired adjustments. Together we’ll establish your bespoke timeline.
  • Intermediate fittings - Careful refinements as your gown takes its final shape.
  • Final fitting - Conducted two weeks prior to your wedding if not otherwise discussed (or two weeks before departure for destination weddings).

Final fittings are scheduled two weeks before your wedding date.
For destination weddings, fittings are set two weeks prior to your departure to ensure your gown travels beautifully.

We kindly request 24 hours’ notice for cancellations, with exceptions for true emergencies.

  • No-shows incur a 7% fee
  • Rescheduling is possible within 24 hours of your appointment

Transparency is paramount. Your comprehensive quote, provided at the consultation or initial fitting, includes all fees and applicable taxes.

If additional work is required, something only visible once alterations begin, you will always be informed before we proceed.

For Couture, this will be something discussed during our fittings, if there is any addition customizations or a drastic change in the design itself.

There is a $70 fee for the appointment of the consultation or initial fitting if you decide to go another way.

Yes. For Alterations Customizations are a signature part of our work, and may include:

  • Adding cups or corsetry
  • Modifying or reshaping the neckline
  • Altering or creating sleeves
  • Structural adjustments for suits and formalwear
  • Other bespoke design requests

We encourage you to bring all customization ideas to your initial appointment, so we may confirm feasibility with your gown’s structure and fabrics. For Couture your entire Gown is Customizable until the 2-3 fitting and as long as we have time to adjust.

  • The exact shoes (or a similar pair, height is key) you will wear on your wedding day
  • The undergarments you plan to wear with your gown

These elements are essential for ensuring precision in length, drape, and overall fit.

We provide professional steaming/pressing only to the areas of the gown that were altered. For complete gown pressing, we recommend coordinating with your venue or bridal party for a steamer.

Yes, you are welcome to bring up to four guests to accompany you. We suggest reserving the final fitting as a beautiful moment to share with your loved ones, the unveiling of your perfectly tailored gown.
